Voices from the Past

Check back. We hope to merge this program with a virtual tour as of September of 2016, prior to closing.

Listen to the voices from Fort Whoop-Up’s past as you wander through the fort and hear first person accounts of life in the many period rooms, and quotes from the time giving a unique insight into what life at the fort was like. Each of the period rooms is brought to life by sounds and voices of the historic scoundrels who made the fort what it was. With this self-guided tour you can move through the rooms at your own pace taking as much or as little time as you like. Different lengths of the program are available in each room to accommodate the right tour for the length of your visit.

Thunderchief Gallery Viewing

The ethnographic materials from these galleries and interpretation will be redeveloped. Several other institutions have expressed interest in this award winning program.

The Thunderchief Gallery is home to a diverse collection of Blackfoot artifacts that interpret many aspects of the Blackfoot culture and way of life. Take a tour of the gallery with one of our site hosts and have a chance to ask about the pieces on display, or about the Blackfoot culture itself. Hear the story of the Belly River Battle, the last great intertribal battle which took place in this very valley in 1870, and had the namesake of the gallery as one of the warchiefs. This collection can only viewed with staff present so be sure to ask staff to see the collection during your visit.
