Through self-guided tours of the reconstructed compound, you can view and possibly engage in simulated activities that took place in living quarters, for cooking, eating, drinking, sleeping and entertainment; trading space for furs and whiskey and working area for horse care, gardening, woodworking, hunting and peacekeeping. As well as listen to what life at Fort Whoop-Up would have been like from the scoundrels who lived at the fort in our Voices from the Past program.
The Compound
The walls and buildings are made of squared logs. In 1876, the walls were extended to allow the Mounted Police to keep their horses inside the compound, to prevent thievery. The extension was completed with rough, unsquared logs.
There are two faithfully-reproduced buildings in the Fort compound. Each building is divided into rooms. Rooms have a specific function.

Bastions
Located at opposite corners and offset from the walls are two blockhouses or bastions. Giving the fur traders a place to stand guard over the fort, and watch for any incoming traders, hostiles or customers.
Cannons
Located around the fort, view the artillery pieces that would have lived in the fort and helped to defend it in cases of attack. Seasonal re-enactment firings take place during our summer months on a daily basis.
